Helenite, also known as Mt. St. Helens obsidian and Emerald or Ruby Obsidianite, is made from fused volcanic rock dust from Mt. St. Helens in Washington.
The beautiful gem-like stone is fused from rock gathered after the 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens. Experts have indicated that the material ejected came from 10-20 miles below the Earth's surface. The volcanic rock, once pulverized, is then fused at temperatures of 2700 degrees.
Helenite is available in various shades of red and green. Although manmade it has gained great popularity among collectors and the jewelry world.
The sterling silver square and twisted wire sculpture has been kept to a minimum, to allow this stone to illuminate its green beauty.
